Native Yaupon is such a beautiful tree. It's a member of the holly family, but friendlier, without the prickly leaf tips. It can grow as either a single trunk or produce multiple trunks. It has beautiful dark green, petite leaves and female trees produce a bright red berry (not poisonous, but you wouldn't want to eat it as it can cause upset stomach).  

Another fun fact about Yaupon is that it grows in a very narrow band of the South and it is the only native plant in the US that contains caffeine. 

Native Yaupon is regarded as a small tree, reaching mature size at about 20' tall, but it can grow bigger in exceptional conditions. It makes a lovely accent tree.  

Native Yaupon isn't picky about sun-- it will grow in full sun or shade.
