Winged Elm has the most unusual, yet beautiful, wavy and bumpy almond colored bark that protrudes from its wood in ridges. Winged Elm is native to the South.
Its elegant branches provide shelter for songbirds. Its leaves and seeds are a source of food for rabbits and other small mammals. It also plays host to both Painted Lady and Question Mark Butterflies in our region.
The graceful Winged Elm can reach mature heights of 30-40' tall and has a canopy spread of about 20-30' across. It is tolerant of a wide array of soils and will adapt to pond and wet conditions. It will grow in full sun or part shade. Water liberally after transplanting.
