Tea Olive is a wonderfully fragrant evergreen shrub. It is native to China, Japan and Southeast Asia.
Tea Olive has small, but heavily perfumed blooms that make their appearance in early spring and then again in autumn.
Scientifically known as Osmanthus Fragrans, the genus name comes from the Greek words for fragrant (osme) and flower (anthos). The species, 'fragrans' means fragrant.
In our area this plant must have shade when UV exposure is at its highest. Tea Olive prefers moist soils with good drainage.
Next season's blooms will appear on this seasons new growth. So when you prune, keep this in mind, as pruning can diminish next year's blooms.
Tea Olives can get quite large, but in our area these generally mature in at about 10-12' tall and will reach a spread of about 6-12' across, making them an excellent choice for privacy screening.
Water your newly planted Tea Olive liberally and routinely for the first few months, as the plant puts down new roots and establishes in its new home.
We offer Tea Olives in a variety of sizes, ranging from 1 gallon, up the way up to 15 gallon containers.
Nursery pick up only (or we'll deliver to you for an additional fee). No shipping as of this time. Please remember some plants look different in different seasons, for the most accurate visual representation of our plants, it's best to visit our nursery. Online orders will be ready for pick up within 48 hours (usually sooner).
