This Bleeding Heart originates from West Africa and features delicate white and red blooms during its growing season.
It can tolerate sun or shade, but each location has its perks-- grow in the shade for deep, emerald green foliage or in full sun to maximize flower output. Another easy way to encourage blooms is to give it a good trim. Blooms are produced on new growth, so we recommend pruning it in January for spring blooms and again in August for autumn blooms.
This is a mild-mannered climber that will mature in at about 6' tall. At maturity she can drink up to three gallons of water a week, so make sure to give her a deep drench at least once or twice a week when our temps start to rise.
This is not your grandmother's old fashioned Bleeding Heart, which comes from the Dicentras family. Clerodendrum Thomsoniae is from a totally different plant family. She is considered a tropical vine. It will handle most of our winter, but protection will be needed if temps hit the mid 20s.
Clerodendrum Thomsoniae is recommended for Zones 9-11
