Compost is rich in organic matter and beneficial nutrients. Organic compost acts as an all-natural, slow-release fertilizer as it breaks down further. Compost is suitable to nearly all plants, it especially benefits fruit bearing plants, vegetables, herbs and flowers. It can also be mixed with our topsoil.
Our organic compost is comprised of only two natural components: washed and aged cow manure and biochar.
Biochar is an excellent substance to have in your garden. It is produced by burning organic material at high temperatures without oxygen, which produces a soil amendment that is rich in carbon.
Biochar has a number of benefits, one being that it will hold nutrients within the soil longer, making fertilizer more effective. It also aids in water retention, which keeps your vegetable and flower beds moist and prevents run off and groundwater leaching. Biochar also contains healthy microbes that fight off soil-borne plant disease. It even has the added benefit of carbon sequestration, which helps reduce greenhouse gases.
The compost process lasts 4-8 weeks, depending on the time of year. Temperature is carefully monitored during this time and once the compost has aged to its most productive state it turns a rich brown and is made available to our customers.
